Dublin Marathon Training Update: The Sights of Wexford
The race is in three days. And it is all I think about. I am excited, prepared, and extremely nervous, all at the same time, every minute of every day. I even dream about the race.
Pinpointing why it is all consuming – I have a few theories. It is probably a combination of, running 26.2 miles is far. The fact that I have shared this journey on social media. Last time I ran a marathon I posted about it once, the night before the race. What if I do not finish? That would be mildly embarrassing. Coupled with the fact that my training run times make me really optimistic. But are they making me too optimistic? I couldn’t really get that time, could I? You see it is very mental right now, I’m ready to get out of my head and just run the dang thing! Three days!
Over the last six months, I have run hundreds of miles in Wexford. It has been special to train in another country. The sights on my running courses have kept me going. And I am starting to get sentimental that my training is coming to an end. If I am being realistic I probably will not run many more miles in Wexford or Ireland after the race. My exercise induced asthma has not gotten better, and it is noticeably worse when I run distances over ten miles. It is a very strange sensation struggling to breath, one I hope to say goodbye to as the running tapers off. My skin is also suffering from breakouts and chafing in areas where my sports bra and running belt rest. Not everyone is made to run marathons and my body is not so subtly informing me of this.
So for a marathon sendoff, I wanted to share some of the sights of Wexford. I have run past these landmarks/images multiple times a week for multiple months. I know the exact distance to all of them from my home. I would say I sure looked strange the couple afternoons I went ‘running’ with my DSLR camera to capture these images, ha.
